LOS ANGELES -- Here comes the (all-new) Spider-Man.

Nineteen-year-old British actor Tom Holland will play Peter Parker in the reboot of the Spider-Man reboot, Sony Pictures and Marvel announced Tuesday. Jon Watts, who directed the Sundance thriller Cop Car, will direct.

"I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent," said new motion pictures chairman Tom Rothman. "For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

Said Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige: “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”

The third Spider-Man in less than 10 years -- Tobey Maguire got a full trilogy from 2002-2007, while Andrew Garfield took two turns in the Spidey suit -- swings into theaters on July 28, 2017. There was no mention of Spider-Man's long-rumored introduction in Captain America: Civil War in Tuesday's announcement.

Holland, a relative newcomer, appeared in The Impossible and In the Heart of the Sea, the upcoming film starring Chris Hemsworth based on Herman Melville's Moby Dick.
