Life as a backup quarterback in the NFL is hard.

Landing a roster spot in the NFL means instant recognition as one of the top athletes in the world -- unless that roster spot is as a backup quarterback. If you're relegated to backup passer duties, you'll probably spend most of your time in the NFL as a placeholder, trying to keep warm on the sidelines and secretly praying for a blowout (either on the scoreboard or in the starting QB’s knee).

Watch the sheer joy and subsequent heartbreak that Denver Broncos passer Brock Osweiler experiences in this Vine, captured by Scott Levy:

Osweiler faced disappointment on Sunday when he thought he would score some rare playing time while his team was up big against the Oakland Raiders. He then realizes that won't be the case with a heartbreaking What! I was gonna ask Stacy out to prom! Ughhh! reaction.

You have to feel a little bad for for Osweiler. Future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning is the starting quarterback for the Broncos, which means that Brock Osweiler is the most “back-y up-y” backup quarterback in the NFL.

Don't feel too bad for Osweiler, though; he'll earn around $660,000 this season.
