It looks as though Super Bowl XLVIII has found its halftime-show entertainer in pop star Bruno Mars, who will reportedly perform midway through the championship game on Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

The singer-songwriter scored his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart in March, with Unorthodox Jukebox, which has spawned such hits as "Locked Out of Heaven," "When I Was Your Man" and "Treasure." He debuted the album's cover on Instagram last year.

Previous halftime-show headliners in the past decade include: Beyonce, Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas and The Who. There is no word on which guest musicians will join Mars for the big gig, but the AP, Billboard and LA Times separately confirmed Mars' involvement Saturday. An official announcement is expected to arrive Sunday.

Last year, Beyonce's sizzling performance, which included an onstage Destiny's Child reunion, lit up social media. Her halftime show generated 5.5 million posts on Twitter and 200 Beyonce-related photos per second on Instagram. Meanwhile on Facebook, mentions for Beyonce increased 49,000% after the show started.

Beyonce's outing was the first halftime show live streamed online in the United States. The CBSSports.com stream reached 3 million unique viewers. More than 108 million people worldwide watched the Ravens defeat the 49ers in the 2013 Super Bowl.
