Google is partnering with British broadcaster BSkyB, licensing YouTube's video-sharing tools, as well as other Google technology like email and internet telephony, according to reports. The YouTube technology will be added to BSkyB's recently launched broadband internet service, allowing users to store and share their video clips. Even so, this will be seen as a rival to YouTube, writes CNN.

Later, we'll see video advertising on BSkyB channels, with ads stored on set-top boxes and added to video streams using Google's algorithms - that means combining AdSense with the information BSkyB already has about its customer's interests. Why launch in the UK, rather than the US? Google says it's because Britain has greater broadband penetration.
