In an apparent attempt to let the general public know they were not dead yet, Yahoo is on a tear with announcements this week. The old warhorse of search engines already announced an ad deal with social network Bebo this week, and now they will be announcing the acquisition of BuzzTracker.com.

BuzzTracker is a news aggregator that uses algorithms and editorial selection to bring deep, and hopefully meaningful, stories related to a topic together so that readers can delve further into the news item. It appears that Yahoo was looking for an aggregator so they could add support to their 60 person news team, and BuzzTracker fit the bill. No purchase price was disclosed, but initial reports say $5 million.

With the news from earlier this week, this announcement, and rumors of a Digg-clone not far off, it appears Yahoo is making a real effort to become relevant again.
