Mumbai's iconic south Indian restaurant Cafe Madras celebrated its 75th anniversary yesterday with the perfect recipe for nostalgia. It priced several popular dishes on its menu at their rates in 1940, the year of its opening. With prices as low as Rs 0.15, the customers could practically have a meal for free.
Situated in the neighbourhood of Matunga, Cafe Madras is one of the city's most popular breakfast spots. The discounted items included steamed idli with sambar and coconut chutney at Rs 0.20, upama at Rs 0.20, masala dosa at Rs 0.40 and filter coffee at Rs 0.15.
As word spread, several first-timers and loyalists took this opportunity to visit the restaurant, and posted photographs of their bills and food on social media.

There were reports of long queues to enter the restaurant, but nobody seemed to mind the wait.
