True Detective Season 3?

American hero Carli Lloyd and NBA legend Kobe Bryant teamed up to run a power play on a Twitter troll who accused the Women's World Cup hero of chasing celebrity status.

It all started Monday after one Twitter user expressed doubt about how Lloyd is maintaining physical form. She's currently in-season for the Houston Dash of the National Women's Soccer League while simultaneously basking in the glory of her World Cup-final hat-trick by hitting the talk show circuit and making other appearances.

It's a fair enough question; Lloyd replied the answer is a simple case of mind over matter.

no offense but how is carli lloyd training playing and appearing on talk shows all within the same week— theresa (@pegyscarters) July 28, 2015

Mentally powering through!! All in the mind. https://t.co/kBxEP81RJ6— Carli Lloyd (@CarliLloyd) July 28, 2015

But things got more interesting after another Twitter user felt the need to jump in and accuse Lloyd of having misplaced priorities. Lloyd shot the critic down tidily, yet that wasn't the end.

@CarliLloyd @pegyscarters Carli is more interested in being a celebrity now than being a soccer player— RIG503 (@ronaldguzman12) July 28, 2015

You are actually 100% wrong. https://t.co/UKk8A0QpDF— Carli Lloyd (@CarliLloyd) July 28, 2015

Then -- out of nowhere it's Kobe Bryant! The Los Angeles Lakers star and avid soccer fan apparently couldn't help coming to Lloyd's defense -- and, one assumes, greatly boosting the aforementioned two tweeters' Klout scores (do those still exist?) with direct at-mentions.

Well.. I can name 2 tweets @CarliLloyd definitely shouldn't be "interested" in @ronaldguzman12 @pegyscarters— Kobe Bryant (@kobebryant) July 28, 2015

Burn ward!

But seriously, the first fan's tweet to Lloyd seemed innocent enough, so perhaps Kobe was a bit too gung-ho in his defense. Nonetheless, let the record now show an added benefit of becoming World Cup champion is Kobe Bryant will have your back on Twitter.

Good to know.
