See Carlos Santana Reunite With Homeless Ex-Bandmate

Marcus "The Magnificent" Malone was a member of Carlos Santana's band in the late 1960s. You won't find much info about him online, however, as he was homeless and nearly impossible to find for decades. Now, he's gotten a chance to meet his legendary former bandmate -- and perhaps even play with him again.

The two musicians did not meet by pure chance. Stanley Roberts, reporter for San Francisco's news station KRON 4, met Marcus Malone while working on a different story last week. Malone, who was sifting through garbage on the streets of Oakland, told Roberts he was in fact the percussionist in Carlos Santana's Santana Blues Band.

After confirming Malone's identity, Roberts brought Santana to Malone for a surprise visit.

"You don't know how afraid I am to let you see me," said Malone as he embraced Santana.

"We cherish you. It's an honor to be in your presence," Santana replied.

The two men last met in 1969, when Malone left Santana's band as he was imprisoned for manslaughter.

In an interview with CNN Sunday, Santana said he plans to help Malone get back on his feet. He also wants to bring the original members of the Santana Blues Band together -- including Marcus -- to record a new album.

"We wrote a song for him called 'Magnificent Marcus Malone. We want him to play on it," said Santana.
