Mikey the cat was grieving over her lost litter of kittens when her owner decided to bring in some reinforcement.

The 8-month-old cat had been pregnant with three kittens of her own, but her litter was born too early, resulting in weak and sickly little kittens that didn't live long past their birth.

Mikey's owner, Hilary, had an idea of how to mend her cat's broken heart. She consulted with Amanda Lowe, a foster mother to three abandoned kittens through the rescue organization Dori's Darlings in Houston, Texas. Soon, Mikey was the proud mother of three adopted baby cats.

The kittens, named by Lowe as Teddy, Abby and Lily, almost instantly bonded with their new mom, after some gentle coaxing.

In a matter of hours, Mikey was playing and cuddling with her adopted kittens as though they were her own.
