Who knew a cat would turn out to be the ultimate big sister?

Though animal owners might expect their pets to feel a bit of jealousy towards new family arrivals, Liel Ainmar Assayag's 2-year-old cat named Panda rarely leaves her newborn son's side.

Even before baby Sean was born, Assayag tells Mashable via email that Panda completely adored him. When Assayag was pregnant, she says the cat would rest her head on her belly. As her stomach grew, Panda "started putting her paws around it so it looked like she was hugging it."

After she gave birth, Assayag says she wasn't surprised when Panda started bonding with the baby.

Though all of Assayag's three cats love the baby, she says Panda is the only one that connected with him from the beginning.

While this story is adorable, Assayag also hopes her photos share a deeper message about pet ownership.

"The most important thing for me is to show people that pets are part of the family," she said.

"I see a lot of people abandoning their pets once there is a baby in the house, because they're afraid that they will hurt the baby...I want to show the people that pets are great companions for kids and they can learn so much from them."
