Even house cats have a survival instinct.

Bubba, an 18-year-old cat belonging to Howard Hogan and Lucina Costain, managed to survive 40 days alone, trapped under snow on the couple's porch at their home on Prince Edward Island, Canada.

The feline disappeared back in January 2015 when she went outside for a typical bathroom break, CBC News reports. When she didn't come back in, Hogan and Costain assumed she had an unfortunate run-in with some of the local wildlife.

Since Bubba's disappearance, nearly 3 meters (about 9 feet) of snow had fallen, and the couple had lost all hope in reuniting with their beloved pet.

At the end of January, however, Hogan saw something furry poking out from under the snow. "I thought I heard something and, sure enough, her paw stuck out and she meowed, and well, I near fainted," he told CBC News.

Thanks to Bubba's somewhat "chubby" body type and her supply of melted snow for water, she is safe and sound with her owners again.
