A family was forced off of a Cathay Pacific flight in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, after their three-year-old son refused to put on his seatbelt.

Flight CX654 was scheduled to depart for Hong Kong at 3:15 p.m., local time. After the boy refused to wear his seatbelt, flight attendants intervened and the situation escalated, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to witnesses, other passengers became upset with the family.

Hong Kong's Apple Daily posted a video of the incident, which includes footage taken by another passenger and an animated recreation of what happened:

The flight ultimately departed 27 minutes late -- without the family.

Cathay Pacific said the family was asked to leave over safety concerns, according to SCMP, since they did not follow crew instructions.
