A woman in the north Indian town of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh was arrested on charges of attempt to murder, as a shocking CCTV video of her beating up her elderly mother-in-law surfaced on social media.

The one-minute-long video, allegedly taken on Jan. 5, shows the woman assaulting her 70-year-old mother-in-law with a brick and then strangling her. It was uploaded on Facebook by social activist Kundan Srivastava and then widely circulated on social media.

The footage was captured by a CCTV camera that was installed by the woman's husband, who told the police that she had been abusing his parents for a while. However, the accused in question has said that the footage is fake and that she is being falsely framed. The couple are currently in the midst of a divorce, with the husband also facing charges of demanding dowry.
