LOS ANGELES -- We knew it was coming, but Donald Trump has been officially fired from NBC.

NBC president Robert Greenblatt confirmed as much Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour.

But the good news for Celebrity Apprentice fans? The show will be back for the 2016-17 season with a new host.

The search for a that host is currently ongoing.

"We've actually been overwhelmed by a number of really exciting people who have come forward and are interested in taking over the show," said Greenblatt.

Despite previous rumors that George Lopez was said to be circling the gig, Greenblatt said that Lopez has never been in the running, to his knowledge. But the network is open to ideas, including appointing a female host.

The last woman to oversee an Apprentice property was Martha Stewart, who hosted her own version of the reality competition show in 2005. It lasted only one season.

NBC is also, according to Greenblatt, finalizing the dissolution of its stake in the Miss USA pageant, a contest the company chose not to air earlier this summer.

The Trump dust-up began back in June after the presidential candidate made derogatory comments about immigrants.

Further hammering home the idea that NBC is cutting ties with Trump, Greenblatt responded to a question about Trump's possible return after the dust settles with two words: "Absolutely not."
