Pixsy Serves Celebrity Photos for MySpace

Pixsy will announce the launch on Thursday of their thumbnail feed widget, allowing bloggers and website publishers, and all MySpace users, to have up-to-minute images posted to their pages. We last mentioned Pixsy when they launched their PixsyPower media search widget for MySpace profiles and blogs.

The pre-built thumbnail feed widget offers professionally-sourced photos in 9 categories: Celebrities, US News, World News, Sports,Travel, Music, Movies, Stock photos and the Absurd. The feeds are dynamic and searchable, making it easy to find a specific image. What's more, you can enter a keyword to create your own custom topic. It's not clear, however, whether bloggers would want to display a celebrity photo feed of images not hosted on their site, and for the MySpace market, it would need to be packaged better. There's certainly a market for displaying photos of a certain celebrity/teen idol on your MySpace, Piczo, hi5 or Xanga page.

Pixsy, as mentioned previously, is a media search platform that powers private label image and video search engines, and has offices in San Francisco, CA and Seattle, WA. It was founded by a team of engineers and business leaders hailing from Microsoft, Sony, and ValueClick. So far, we think their widget attempts are missing the mark: if they really want to appeal to social networking members, they may need to launch separate sites for the widgets, targeted at MySpace users. Something simple like Zingfu or Dundoo.
