LAS VEGAS -- Every January, thousands of tech companies and journalists gather here to display the newest consumer products, and to get convention swag.

Kicking off International CES is CES Unveiled on Sunday afternoon. The event is basically a pre-show for the larger events that are held throughout the week. Although the name sounds impressive, CES Unveiled is simply underwhelming — except for the food.

As a CES first-timer, I was warned by my more seasoned co-workers about the overwhelming horrors associated with a giant convention, but as I walked into the Mandalay Bay Convention Center the only impressive thing for myself was the massive display of finger foods.

But for many journalists who barely made it to Las Vegas in time for CES Unveiled, the ridiculous spread (and the booze -- this is Vegas, after all) was the only thing they really wanted to check out.

I'm sure the rest of the week will be different.
