To Maurice Ashley, chess is more than just a game -- it's life. Literally.

Ashley, who became the world's first African-American International Grandmaster in 1999, has made a career out of teaching the principles and, as he puts it, invaluable life lessons that chess imparts.

We caught up with Ashley and his former student, who's now become a chess teacher himself, in New York City. Watch their stories in the documentary, above.
