After just a few weeks in theaters, Spike Lee and Amazon Studios' Chi-Raq is headed online for digital download.

The film released on Dec. 4 and is already available for rental and purchase on Amazon, iTunes and Google Play, but on Feb. 4 will be free for Amazon Prime subscribers.

Chi-Raq will be the first original film on Amazon's video streaming services, poised to be one of many. According to The Verge, the film will also be released on DVD and Blu-Ray this month.

In July, the head of motion picture production at Amazon Studios, Ted Hope, described Chi-Raq as Lee's "greatest, and definitely his boldest film yet — everything about it is distinctive."

For customers who hate the lull between a film's theater release and online video debut, Chi-Raq makes a bold movie, shrinking the waiting period to mere weeks.
