LONDON – It turns out people don't like it when you suggest doing something fancy with their chicken dippers. They don't like it at all.

Birds Eye UK have recently been getting a fair old hammering on social media for their idea of turning chicken dippers into kids party canapes, which has been televised as part of their "Mix up your menu" advertising campaign.

Here's a small taste of the type of responses the canape idea has been met with so far.

Canapés made with chicken dippers & potato waffles. Seriously? @BirdsEyeUK— Cathy (@CathyFulker) August 14, 2015

Errrr that chicken dippers canapé idea is meant to be a joke, yeah?? @BirdsEyeUK pic.twitter.com/PuLtVY5vOq— Jay (@JayMeW) August 14, 2015

Can't tell if the @BirdsEyeUK advert is being ironic with its "very civilized" chicken dipper canapes...— Katherine (@LadyKatherine95) August 11, 2015

Things I've learned so far from my day off - Birdseye are encouraging us to use chicken dippers on toast as canapés.— Holly Morgan (@morgstoyou) August 14, 2015

I think I've just seen someone suggest birds eye chicken dippers could be used as party canapés... #wtf #WhatDoYouMean— Frankie Bellingham (@LeFrankieJuice) August 7, 2015

CHICKEN DIPPER CANAPÉS. Are you shitting me @BirdsEyeUK ?— James Coverdale (@JamesCoverdale1) August 6, 2015

The YouTube comments on the advert haven't exactly been complimentary, either.

All in all, it doesn't look as though people are too taken with the idea.

Step away from the chicken dippers, Birds Eye. It's not going to end well.
