Two transit cops had the privilege of welcoming one of Philadelphia's newest residents to the world Christmas evening.

"When she was on the train I guess the baby said, 'I'm ready to come out now,'" Toney Harris-Saunders, who was on the same subway train headed to see family, told NBC 10. He saw the woman going into labor, and called 911.

Officers Daniel Caban and Dorrell James arrived just in time.

“I was hoping for a quiet day, but this is worth it,” said Caban, who helped deliver the baby.

“As soon as we got there, I could see the baby’s head coming through her sweatpants, and we just went right to work,” he told KYW Newsradio.

"Everything just happened so quick but it was amazing," James said.

The baby's father offered his shirt to wrap the newborn boy in, and then the mother held the baby until an ambulance arrived.

"It was just a blessing during the holiday," Caban said. "A Christmas baby."

Chief Thomas J. Nestel III of the Southern Pennsylvania Transit Authority welcomed the boy to the city.

For those that have asked, I have waived today's fare for our newest rider. Congratulations!!!— Thomas J. Nestel III (@TNestel3) December 26, 2014

The woman and her baby boy were taken by ambulance to Hahnemann University Hospital. They were reported to be in good condition.
