The first Civilization title designed exclusively for touch interfaces is coming to Apple's App Store next week, 2K Games revealed on Monday.

Civilization Revolution 2 is the first in the turned-based strategy game franchise to be created for mobile first, rather just being a port of a mouse-and-keyboard PC edition. It's the sequel to 2008's Civilization Revolution originally created for consoles, then ported to iOS in 2009.

Now 2K Games said CivRev 2 will focus on touch controls right from the start of development. Firaxis Studios, the company behind the modern Civilization franchise, has already found major success both porting titles to mobile, with the full-fledged port of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, as well as mobile-first titles like Sid Meier's Ace Patrol

The original Civilization Revolution became one of Apple's top 10 best selling games in 2009.

Civilization Revolution 2 will be out July 2 for iOS, with an Android version "coming soon", according to a 2K Games press release.
