When Mike Licht sees a classic piece of art, he also sees a perfect opportunity to insert an unexpected dash of wit.
The writer's Flickr stream is filled with iPads, fried chicken and PC laptops pasted into 100-plus-year-old paintings. Even though the gadget add-ons don't belong in these classic works of art, they somehow fit in a kooky sort of way. Mrs. Duffee reading a Kindle on her striped sofa? It works.
Licht doesn't use Photoshop. He sticks to his old standby, Microsoft Paint. And, yes, you could argue that using such a basic program is limiting, and the results are elementary. But perhaps it's actually perfect -- a quirky nod to the "classical" theme.
"Back in the last century I did work for others using professional graphic tools, but when I started blogging back in 2007 I began working this way [with Microsoft Paint]," he tells Mashable. "Can't really say why. Maybe I feel the inevitable digital artifacts are part of the charm."
