The U.N. Paris Climate Summit that begins on Monday, Nov. 30 could become a landmark moment in the movement to combat climate change. World leaders will gather to negotiate a plan of action to tackle the issue, but ahead of the vitally important conversation, people around the world have gathered to send their leaders a clear message: The time to act is now.

In France, they rallied on Saturday despite a ban on such protests under the state of emergency laws declared after the Nov. 13 Paris attacks. In Melbourne, Australia, organisers estimated around 60,000 people flooded the city streets on Saturday. Everywhere from Japan to the Philippines and South Africa, people made their voices heard.

"We want to send a message to the rest of the world, especially the world leaders at the climate talks, to say that our survival is not negotiable," Denise Fontanilla, spokeswoman for the Asian People’s Movement on Debt and Development, told AFP in the Philippines.

Similar events are planned in the U.S. and other countries on Sunday.
