CNN has cut Christiane Amanpour's entire staff in New York as part of the cable news channel's restructuring, according to people with knowledge of the situation.
Amanpour, CNN's chief international correspondent and anchor of a nightly foreign affairs program, will continue to produce international news segments and a daily show out of London, where more of her staff is located. CNN spokesperson Allison Gollust declined to provide specifics on how many jobs were affected.
"The changes this week are difficult yet necessary," Gollust said in an email to Mashable. "Out of respect for our colleagues directly impacted, we won’t be commenting on specific people or programs."
CNN's parent company, Time Warner, is cutting jobs across its businesses, which also include Warner Bros. studio and Turner Broadcasting. CNN's international coverage and its international operation have been bright spots for the network, which has seen overall viewership declines in the U.S. during the last 10 years.
CNN doesn't plan on diminishing foreign affairs coverage and will continue to focus on world events, including the Ebola outbreak, ISIS and the conflicts in Ukraine and Israel and Gaza.
