Cancel your dinner plans. CNN has something new on the menu for you.

A CNN op-ed titled "The Argument for Eating Dog" published Wednesday by columnist John Sutter profiles the illegal dog meat market and suggests that eating dogs could be less cruel than euthanizing them. Sutter goes on to say that while he couldn't bring himself to eat dog meat, it is curious that meat eaters in the United States have no problem with killing and eating other animals.

Unsurprisingly, CNN's tweet about the story sparked harsh criticism on Twitter with many canine lovers appalled at turning man's best friend into man's best dinner.

We euthanize 1.2M dogs a year. It's tough to hear, but @jdsutter asks: Would eating them be so different? http://t.co/4pDgKh9Ovz @CNNOpinion— CNN (@CNN) July 23, 2014

There were even some pooches who had a word for CNN. But we'll give CNN the benefit of the doubt; the network was referring to hot dogs, guys. Lots and lots of hot dogs.
