Just like you, German illustrator Stefan Kuhnigk spilled some coffee on his desk one day. Unlike you, he turned it into an adorable viral art project.

Kuhnigk told Mashable that when he inspected the stain on his desk, he "found something. A stain looking like a monster -- a coffeemonster."

So Kuhnigk drew what he saw. Thus, coffeemonsters were born.

#Coffee #Monster #coffeemonster / The First coffeemonster. Will be a series, so be aware!

Now, Kuhnigk has created more than 500 little characters, with even more in the works. His process is simple.

"I take some coffee and let it splash onto a piece of paper," he explained. "After drying for about four to six hours, I can draw directly onto the stain. I try to see a character or figure in it and when I find something, I draw it." And look how cute it is.

Asked whether his creations are inspired by people he knows, Kuhnigk explained that each monster is totally improvised. "The personalities are random just like the stains," he said. "It's just what I see at that point in time."

Would he ever use other beverages for inspiration? Maybe; he's considered "a Christmas edition with red wine and other drinks."

We'd be down for some merlotmonsters. In the meantime, check out the artist at work.
