Coke just made a winking eye smiley face at the Internet.
Coca-Cola Puerto Rico has launched a campaign of registered web addresses made up of popular emojis. The cutesy URLs have been placed on the company's website and other media outlets, including billboards.

Of course, the emoji addresses don't actually go to the "crying joy face" or "stuck out tongue" dot com. When entered into a mobile device, the addresses are rerouted to the Coca Cola Puerto Rico website. Each URL displayed on the billboards don't even tout dot com or even dot net domains. Instead, they end in the suffix, ".ws" which is the domain for Samoa.
"Emojis are not accepted on domains such as .com, .net, and .org...we opted to go with the .ws because the letters could stand for 'We smile'," a representative from DDB Puerto Rico told Adweek.
It's only fitting that such a universal company like Coke would opt for a universal text format. Maybe one day, dot coms will finally catch up with Samoa and we will all live in a wonderland of emoji URLs.
