At the end of Friday night's Late Show with Stephen Colbert broadcast, a shaken Colbert addressed the deadly Paris attacks.

According to those present at Friday's show taping, he broke news of the attacks to his audience during a commercial break.

In the clip via The Daily Beast Colbert acknowledged that they'd taped most of the episode unaware of the attacks in Paris.

"I know that not much is known right now," he said. "We do know there have been many deaths and the crisis is still ongoing. President Hollande declared a state of emergency, and President Obama has promised the United States will do whatever it takes to bring those terrorists to justice."

"We add our thoughts and prayers to everyone in Paris," he said, before bidding the audience a solemn goodbye.
