A day after Opening Day baseball games were canceled in New York City and Cleveland due to rain and cold weather, the second time proved a chilly charm. The games went on, but they were uncharacteristically cold thanks to a weather system that brought frigid temperatures to the Northeast.

In New York, the Yankees hosted the Houston Astros in a 2015 Wild Card rematch that was also the coldest Yankees home opener in 13 years. (The Astros won 5-3.)

Meanwhile, in Cleveland, the Cleveland Indians hosted the Boston Red Sox in 34-degree temperatures, the coldest Opening Day in Cleveland history and the coldest Opening Day game in Major League Baseball since 1999. (Boston won 6-2.)

Not to be outdone, the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals, who opened under cold conditions on Sunday, play Tuesday night in Pittsburgh where the temperature could get down to the low 30s.
