Sports fans (to use the term loosely) on the Internet can be awful. It doesn't get much lower than using Twitter to mock a college basketball player for his mother's battle with breast cancer.

Yet that's just what some unnamed cretin did to New Mexico guard Hugh Greenwood before a recent game against UNLV. But Greenwood had a perfect response to shut the Twitter troll up and help his team pull out a key win.

Greenwood scored 22 points, made six three-pointers and dunked in a game for the first time in years to help New Mexico beat UNLV 71-69 on Wednesday night. Then he gave a remarkable post-game interview, which is embedded above, in which he rightly called out the Twitter troll for being classless.

Greenwood is a senior guard who is originally from Tasmania, Australia. His flowing blonde locks give him a recognizable look and are a hit with many fans -- but there is a powerful story behind them. He began growing his hair long to use his public position as a starter on a nationally recognized college basketball team to help raise awareness for cancer.

His mother, Andree, had breast cancer that was in remission for four years before it returned this past off-season, according to local New Mexico news station KRQE. It's since spread to her lungs, Greenwood told the station in October, making the Twitter troll's harassment even more despicable.

You can look up what the troll said if you want; we're not going to share the details here -- but your time would be much better spent checking out Pink Pack, a fundraiser Greenwood started to bring in cash for the University of New Mexico Cancer Center.
