This may come as a shock, but most of the incoming freshmen college class were born in 1996.

They were only 4-year-olds when the world collectively freaked out about Y2K. And only 5 when the music industry was torn to shreds and we all began downloading music instead of going to Tower Records.

Since 1998, Beloit College has compiled a Mindset List, which represents the mentality of its incoming freshman. It serves as a reminder for faculty to steer clear from dated references.

So, in order to stay relevant with the youngsters, we've compiled our own list of cultural references that those fresh-faced, know-it-all 18-year-olds probably haven't experienced.
