10 Gadgets College Students Don't Need

As September rapidly approaches, college students around the world are raiding stores for this year's hottest back-to-school gadgets. What you may not know is most of those items are completely unnecessary.

Last year alone, Americans spent a historically high $84 billion in the seven-week "back-to-school" shopping period, making it the second largest retail season of the calendar year, behind the winter holiday. This year's spending is expected to total $73 billion by season's end, according to the National Retail Federation.

But while you're out there, be careful. Amazon can be a deceiving place. Shiny objects, cool features and great deals might steer you toward that lithium battery-powered hole puncher. Just don't.

We've compiled a list of 10 commonly purchased -- but rarely useful -- dorm accessories for you to review before you make any final decisions.

What gadgets have you bought for your dorm that didn't live up to the hype? Tell us in the comments.
