College Television Awards Teams Up With Vimeo, mtvU to Celebrate Best in Film

The 34th College Television Awards have officially brought Vimeo in as the video platform for this year's competition. The awards, dubbed the Emmys for college students, and presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation, will ask participants to use the social film sharing site to submit entries.

"Since Vimeo is one of the world's largest creative networks, they provide an ideal platform for these students to house and share their content with other creatives," Norma Provencio Pichardo -- executive director of the Television Academy Foundation -- tells Mashable.

The company will also provide free trials of Vimeo Plus for all students who enter the competition so no participants will be hindered by the paywall.

Vimeo also joins mtvU as a partner for the event that has acted as a launching pad for notable filmmakers who have gone to win Emmys and Oscars.

Participants are also elibable for winning the Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship, which recongizes students making strides in children’s media, mainly in "the use of children’s media as a positive and enriching force in child education and entertainment."

"Our judges are working professionals in the television industry, and they look for compelling work that has a point of view, and expresses that point of view with an authentic voice -- whether it's a comedy, drama, children's or animated piece," Pichardo says. "Film, television and digital students who are passionate about their work and the stories they have to tell are the ones who will win this competition."

The competition is open to college and graduate students and has begun accepting submissions.
