The boy apparently climbed into the homemade craft and floated away from his family's home. The helium-powered craft can reportedly reach as high as 10,000 feet, making rescue attempts challenging. [UPDATE 12:36 PST]: The craft has touched down softly but no one can confirm the boy's condition or even if he was in the craft.

[UPDATE 12:49 PST]: A rescue official just went on record saying the boy was not inside the craft when it landed.
