A massive wildfile raging just outside of Colorado Springs, Colo., doubled in size between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The flames now cover more than 24 square miles -- roughly the size of Manhattan -- in and around the Waldo Canyon area. Thirty-two-thousand residents have been ordered to flee their homes for safer ground, while an unknown number of houses have already been destroyed, according to an Associated Press report.

Despite firefighter's efforts on the ground and in the air, the blaze continues to spread due to hot, dry and windy weather. As the Waldo Canyon fire puts homes, businesses and lives at risk, local residents have been using Twitter and Instagram to post pictures, prayers, and messages of hope for firefighters, neighbors and loved ones.
