Microsoft will soon relaunch MSN Spaces as Windows Live Spaces - they'll also add a bunch of new features. The redesigned site will allow you to reposition your Space's title and tagline using a module - you'll also be able to display your Windows Live Messenger buddy list on your page and add gadgets to your blog sidebar. To make it easier to navigate the Spaces, the team is adding an optional Navigation Module and a breadcrumbing feature (this is a common way to retrace your steps, and will likely be something like Live Spaces >> John's Space >> Blog Entry).

The existing text ads will be replaced with banner ads, but paid subscribers will be able to turn these off. The paid account costs $20 per year and also increases the amount of storage in your Live Mail account. Finally, the URL structure will change - presumably the new site will be found at spaces.live.com (which isn't live yet, ironically).

MSN Spaces claims to be the world's most popular blogging platform, with 100 million unique visitors per month. This popularity is most likely due to heavy integration with MSN Messenger - it'll be interesting to see whether AOL can pull of the same trick with their new AIMPages network.
