ComScore's Widget Metrix Report, the first of its kind to measure the effects of widgets, has been released, prompting a flurry of discussion for advertisers that now have a third party take on the effects of widgets on the web.

As we mentioned earlier, Slide tops the list, reaching over 13% of the entire widget audience. Similar widgets on the list include RockYou and Photobucket, both of which also have a large audience base on MySpace. Surprisingly, YouTube was no where to be found, begging the question: how did ComScore determine its metrics for widget use?

This report will come in handy for social networking sites, widget creators and advertisers alike, as the continued development of widgets is becoming commonplace, and will bring new ways to share content across a variety of devices and platforms. Widgets have already proven a new channel by which advertising can be distributed, but with third party studies providing objective analysis, traditional and new media companies alike can take this data and run with it.
