Conan O'Brien's first Twitter fight with a former Secretary of State was a resounding failure. (For him, at least.)
The comedian and talk show host had a good ole Internet flame war with Madeleine Albright (albeit one that ended after one exchange), who served as the U.S. Secretary of State from 1997 to 2001. Conan believes Albright is one of his many doppelgangers (also numbered among them is Tilda Swinton).
The "fight" began when O'Brien revealed his Halloween costume.
I picked out my Halloween costume. I’m going as “Slutty Madeleine Albright.”— Conan O'Brien (@ConanOBrien) October 23, 2014
About an hour later, Albright responded with what might be the best burn in the history of former Cabinet members.
.@ConanOBrien I'm considering going as hunky Conan O'Brien - but that might be too far fetched.— Madeleine Albright (@madeleine) October 23, 2014
Albright's tweet was the clear victor and Conan embraced his defeat gracefully; the two then exchanged playful replies into Friday morning.
.@Madeleine YES - My first twitter war with a former Secretary of State! You're next, George P. Shultz!— Conan O'Brien (@ConanOBrien) October 23, 2014
.@ConanOBrien Never get into a word war with a diplomat. We talk even more than comedians.— Madeleine Albright (@madeleine) October 23, 2014
.@ConanOBrien Ha, you're certainly not the first to make that mistake... But all in good fun! #TeamCoco— Madeleine Albright (@madeleine) October 24, 2014
As long as they both don't end up at the same Halloween party, this should blow over without further incident.
