We may not all be getting to work using those promised jetpacks just yet, but we are one step closer to driverless cars and connected homes.
In fact, after my tour of Savant's 8,000 square-foot showroom in New York City, I'd say the connected home is fast becoming a reality.
Savant Systems uses Apple's iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch to create a personalized control portal for all your connected devices. Everything is connected through home automation, with a MacMini running the show.
Each room in the home has a wall-mounted iPad that controls functions like lighting, home theater, even opening and closing the curtains. You can turn lights on and off in other rooms just by touching the light on the screen. Great for freaking out your kid sister.
In the future, Savant's Dave Pedigo tells Mashable, we'll be using this technology to monitor our health, energy use and access online content using voice and gesture control.
