A New York police officer was charged for buying an iPhone for $15 off the street from an undercover fellow officer, New York Daily News reports. The accused officer, Sgt. Victor Leandry, works in the NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau where he helps displace "bad" activity within the organization.
The undercover officer was part of a sting operation aimed at catching stolen devices being sold on the black market. According to reports, the officer confronted Leandry on Dec. 3 at an intersection in Washington Heights and pestered him until he agreed to buy the phone.
Leandry was charged with possession of stolen property and is due in court on Jan. 15. He claims the phone was not offered to him as a stolen device.
