A heartbreaking photo snapped by a bystander in Brighton, Colorado shows a police officer attempting to distract a 2-year-old girl after she and her family were involved in a deadly car wreck on Thursday.

The devastating car crash killed the father instantly, so when officers arrived they did their best to distract the little girl while paramedics attended to the mother and three other children that were injured, KDVR, a local news station in Denver, reports.

Brighton police officer Nick Struck, who has a 2-year-old daughter of his own attended to the child, singing her nursery rhymes in order to calm her.

“My daughter, who’s the sweetest thing in the world when she falls down and cries, she wants ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ sung to her,” Struck told KDVR. "So this girl, I was singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ and pointing to the lights in the fire truck.”

The bystander, Jessica Matrious, originally tweeted the photo, however it gained serious attention after it was uploaded to Reddit.

According to Commander Frank Acosta with the Brighton Police Department, the vehicle lost control after blowing a tire, and rolled multiple times before landing on its side.

Police say that none of the passengers except for the 2-year-old in her car seat were wearing seat belts. The father was pronounced dead on scene, two passengers were airlifted and the other three children were transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

The family is believed to have been on vacation in Colorado from Illinois.
