Earlier today, I received an email from PayPal, indicating that my MoFuse Professional account – which I use for powering a mobile version of my web site under my own domain – had been cancelled. Confused, I emailed David Berube, Chief Architect of MoFuse, who gave me the good news: MoFuse has decided to make its service free for everyone.
The company currently powers mobile sites for around 10,000 publishers that Berube says are now “serving up pageviews in the 7 figure range.” While Berube wouldn’t disclose how many of those publishers were professional accounts, at $3/mo, it’s unlikely the company is giving up a huge revenue source by turning its attention to mobile advertising instead. Besides being able to get your own custom URL for your mobile site, other features set free by MoFuse include adding your own logo, creating up to 5 mobile sites under your account, and the ability to promote via SMS.
The nice thing about setting up your mobile site with MoFuse is that it requires literally no technical know-how – just plug-in the RSS feeds for your blog or other content you’d like on your site and MoFuse takes care of the rest, including creating an optimized experience for iPhone users. Combined with making custom domains and branding free in addition to eventually offering more advanced monetization options, MoFuse could help bring a lot more bloggers into the mobile Web.
Disclosure: MoFuse powers Mashable’s recently launched mobile site, as well as that of ReadBurner, where I’m a co-founder.
