The crowds to see Pope Francis in D.C. stretched as far as the eye could see

Tens of thousands of people showed up at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., on Thursday to catch a glimpse of Pope Francis on the day he became the first pope to address a joint meeting of Congress.

Much of Washington, D.C., New York City and Philadelphia will be shut down during parts of this week as the pope visits each of the three northeastern cities.
