Creationists vs. Atheists: Takedown Battle on YouTube

There's an apocalyptic battle going on between an organization called the Creation Science Evangelism, and the Rational Response Squad, and it's all over a few video clips on YouTube.

The Creation Science Evangelism (CSE) has submitted several DMCA takedown notices to YouTube after the Rational Response Squad (RRS) used some of its clips for a series of criticizing videos posted on the video-sharing site. After The RRS complained that their videos were being taken down in an attempt by the CSE to stifle freedom of speech, the group was reportedly banned from YouTube.

The kicker is that the content from the CSE may not be protected under copyright, and the CSE may be in for some larger issues at hand--like perjury. As the CSE has in fact waived at least some of the copyrights over its content, and has encouraged others to use it freely. And it may or may not be important to note here that the CSE founder Kent Hovind is actually serving a 10 year prison sentence for tax evasion, but perhaps the stance of legal credibility could be a valid point of concern for the organization as a whole.

Nevertheless, the real issue here is that the DMCA laws are being taken advantage of on one level or another, and if organizations, companies, or individuals are seen abusing the already burdened system of claiming content and fighting for its protection, then that makes situations for YouTube and other video-sharing networks even more difficult to rectify.
