One of CBS' most iconic franchises is coming to an end.

The network announced on Wednesday it will wrap up CSI in the fall with a two-hour series finale, during which original cast members -- including William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger -- will return.

Petersen left the series in 2009; Helgenberger left in 2012.

In its 15 seasons, the mothership series spawned three spinoffs, including CSI:NY, CSI: Miami and CSI: Cyber -- the latter of which will become the new home for CSI's existing lead Ted Danson.

Danson, who took over as the lead on the franchise following the 2011 exit of Laurence Fishburne, will join Patricia Arquette as part of the cast of spinoff, which officially scored a second season days ago.

The series finale of CSI is set to air Sept. 27.

Elsewhere, CBS officially picked up a new spinoff in the world of Criminal Minds , starring Gary Sinise, who led CSI: NY for nine seasons, from 2004 to 2013. CBS also picked up a TV adaptation of buddy-cop film Rush Hour, starring Jon Foo and Justin Hires.

Those shows join previously picked up Supergirl in the newbies category at CBS.
