Cuba released the first photos of 88-year-old Fidel Castro in more than five months on Tuesday.
In the the nearly two dozen photos posted on Cuba's state media outlets, Castro is pictured sitting down for an interview with the head of the main Cuban student union, who penned a first-person account to accompany the photos.
The student leader, Randy Perdomo Garcia, said the three-hour the meeting took place in Castro's home on Jan. 23.
The pair discussed the recent release of three Cuban intelligence agents, which was part of the historic deal between Cuba and the U.S., a first step in re-establishing full diplomatic relations between the two countries. The photos show Castro examining a newspaper report about their release.
Perdomo said the two also talked about international politics, agriculture, astronomy and even Namibia's donation of animals to Cuba's National Zoo.
The photos are the first images of the revolutionary leader since August, when a set of images showed Castro talking with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
