Major League Baseball legend and ESPN analyst Curt Schilling probably definitely shouldn't have tweeted that.

But apparently his desire to "get to the true #'s" won out -- and now here we are.

Schilling on Tuesday morning posted -- then quickly deleted, after attracting universal Twitter backlash -- a weird, unattributed meme thingie comparing Muslims to Nazis. Here's a screenshot, because you can never really delete something from the Internet.

Did Curt Schilling @gehrig38 delete this tweet b/c the numbers were off or b/c it was a horrible thing to tweet? pic.twitter.com/rK86wyZPmm— Arash Karami (@thekarami) August 25, 2015

Interestingly enough, Schilling is the second ESPN analyst in three days to find himself backtracking in haste after popping off at the lip (or type-pad, as the case may be). NFL legend and current ESPN analyst Cris Carter issued a public apology Sunday after video was discovered of him telling incoming rookies at an official league orientation that they need to get "a fall guy" to block them from law enforcement.

ESPN released a statement Tuesday afternoon deeming Schilling's tweet "completely unacceptable." The company says it has removed Schilling from its Little League World Series coverage. Schilling apologized in a tweet as well, and responded individually to some critical followers, saying the post was a mistake.

I understand and accept my suspension. 100% my fault. Bad choices have bad consequences and this was a bad decision in every way on my part.— Curt Schilling (@gehrig38) August 25, 2015

This is hardly the first time Schilling's views and personality have caused a stir since he retired in 2007.

In March, he took on Twitter trolls who harassed his daughter. In January, he claimed that voter bias against his Republican politics excluded him from the Hall of Fame. And finally, we must never forget his epic, five-hour Twitter rant against the theory of evolution last November.
