You know, you really hate to see stuff like this, a New Media personality defecting to the Old Media. Markos Moulitas, the man behind the liberal blog famous for the recent headline "I Don't Support the Troops ... oops, there, I said it" is sending its leading man to cover the presidential campaign trail for Newsweek as a contributor this season.

Moulitas won't be leaving his post at DailyKos, much to the chagrin of conservative bloggers everywhere, but will be contributing to Newsweek in its presidential coverage, to be balanced by an as of yet to be named conservative pundit as well.

"We have always sought to represent a diversity of views in Newsweek, and we think Markos will be a great part of that tradition," said Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham. "He will give our readers in print and online a unique perspective. As always, our job is to create the most energetic and illuminating magazine possible, and Markos will help us do that as the campaign unfolds."

I can't tell if Editor Jon is being charitable or tongue-in-cheek. Having Kim Jong-Il cover the campaign would provide a unique perspective, too, though I don't know if that'd be a great choice either. Jon Meacham is right about one thing: It'll be interesting to see if Moulitas will be as popular at Newsweek as Amanda Congden was at ABC.

Of course, given Newsweek's track record on accuracy, they may not be risking a whole lot of their own personal reputation by taking on someone of Markos Moulitas ilk.
