DarkMatter poets want us to move past trans and gender nonconforming stereotypes

DarkMatter poets Janani Balasubramanian and Alok Vaid-Menon describe their experiences in a world that still struggles to understand their gender nonconforming identities. Stakes are high for trans and gender nonconforming communities. They are not just fighting to be able to express themselves openly without discrimination: "Gender becomes one of the ways that people's access to very serious institutions, like, jobs and housing is regulated," Balasubramanian pleas.
