The aftermath of Friday's attacks in Paris is still reverberating around the world -- and people are expressing their support in every way they know how.

Folk singer Darren Hanlon was on his way home in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday night when he missed his bus stop, winding up rather far from his home.

"I looked up to see a neighbourhood I didn't recognise so I dinged the bell and was deposited outside a brightly lit Ferrari dealership," he wrote in a Facebook post.

So he ended up taking an Uber home instead.

His Uber driver, who was originally from India, was a Muslim man. After some small talk about which route they should take, the driver turned the conversation to the events in Paris, which moved him to tears.

"These people say they act under the name of Islam. I've studied religion, theology. The etymology of the word Islam comes from a word that means 'peace,'" the driver said, according to Hanlon's Facebook post about the encounter.

The driver continued, explaining that "that people will angle teachings of the Koran to reflect their own needs. The finance banker will use certain lines to justify his actions, just as the jihadist will do the same."

I'm on at 8pm.Posted by Darren Hanlon on Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Hanlon said the conversation opened his eyes to how the attacks affected Muslims everywhere: "I just want to tell you about my brief random conversation with a sad Muslim Sydney Uber driver, whose religion is being taken from him."
